Ray’s Food Place will stop bagging customers’ groceries in plastic bags beginning Monday, its parent company announced.
C&K Markets, which operates Ray’s, Shop Smart and Lo Buck$ grocery stores, said it will offer customers free paper bags or 99-cent reusable bags, according to a news release issued Wednesday. It will also offer customers a 5-cent bag refund for bringing in their own bags.
Brookings-based C&K Markets said the change is part of a renewed commitment to sustainability.
In Central Oregon, Ray’s Food Place stores can be found in Bend, La Pine, Prineville, Redmond and Sisters, according to its website.
