Events in town tend to slow to a crawl this time of year, but nothing can stop First Friday Gallery Walk.
According to Susan Higdon of Tumalo Art Co., “There always seems to be a bit of confusion about whether or not there is a First Friday Gallery Walk in January," she wrote to GO! Magazine a while back. “And there always is! The Bend Gallery Association decided years ago to keep it going year round."
That means galleries, cafes and other businesses will stay open late to offer art, music, appetizers, wine and more culture than you can shake a cheese-laden toothpick at from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight.
Here is a small amount of information about a few of the participants:
Tumalo Art Co., at 450 S.W. Powerhouse Drive, will hold over its December show, “Little (Art) Delights," for “people who found something they want for themselves while they were shopping for others," Higdon said.
Art in the Atrium at Franklin Crossing, 550 N.W. Franklin Ave., celebrates First Friday from 5-8 p.m. with “Visions of Hope," paintings and drawings by Snake River Correctional Institution inmates.
Red Chair Gallery, 103 N.W. Oregon Ave., will open the show “Flowing Medium — Cold to Hot," with encaustics and pastels by Janice Rhodes, “aura waterfalls" by Justin Kelchak and fiber arts by The Way We Art, a Central Oregon wearable art company.
Paul Scott Gallery, 869 N.W. Wall St., is spotlighting the work of Jane Schmidt, an oil painter from North Carolina. whose work is inspired by abstract expressionists.
