Shooting suspect delays plea

Published: December 28. 2012 4:00AM PST

The attorney for a man accused of shooting at two Bend residents in northwest Bend in August said he hopes to reach a settlement in the next week.

Stephen Kemm Mitchell, 32, is currently in the Deschutes County jail on charges of attempted murder, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police said Mitchell fired at least three shots from a revolver built to fire shotgun shells at two strangers on the corner of Newport Avenue and Northwest 13th Street. One of the men was struck in the neck with wadding from one of the shotgun shells, but was not injured.

Mitchell appeared by video Thursday in Deschutes County Circuit Court with his attorney, Reid Kajikawa. Kajikawa said he is in the midst of settling the case.

Judge Michael Sullivan set Mitchell’s plea hearing for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 10.
