Oregon Arts Commission grants

Published: December 28. 2012 4:00AM PST

Two Central Oregon organizations and one city are among the 23 recipients of 2013 Arts Build Communities (ABC) grants.

The grants, funded by the Oregon Arts Commission, were issued this month to support projects that address community issues including literacy, downtown redevelopment and cultural inclusiveness.

“Each project demonstrates creativity, local commitment, community partnership and high-quality arts programs created specifically to improve lives," a news release quotes Arts Commissioner Libby Tower, who chaired the review panel, as saying. “These awards represent modest investments that return significant value to Oregonians."

The High Desert Museum received $4,500 to support Wild Adventures, free preschool literacy and arts programming aimed at developing children’s interest in reading.

The Museum at Warm Springs received $5,600 to support an exhibit on the life and work of the late tribal member and artist Apolonia Susana Santos, along with an Artist Village to engage the community and museum visitors during the museum’s 20th anniversary celebration in 2013.

The city of Redmond received $2,800, which will go to support sculptor Ryan Beard’s residency with elementary, middle and high school students as he completes the design, construction and installation of a public artwork for Redmond’s first roundabout.
