Bend Police arrested a 44-year-old man Saturday after he reported a burglary in progress at his home.
According to a police news release, Anthony Joseph Pastran, of Bend, called 911 just before 6 a.m. He told dispatchers that his home, at 1187 N.E. Ross Road, was being burglarized. Pastran said someone knocked on the door and his girlfriend, 39-year-old Lisa Anne Schnittke, answered the knock and found a gun on the front porch.
Pastran then told dispatchers that Schnittke had been shot in the leg.
When police arrived, they determined Schnittke had been shot through her left thigh, and the bullet had lodged in her right thigh. She was taken to St. Charles Bend and was released Saturday. A handgun was recovered at the home, and during interviews and a search of the home, police determined there had been no break-in.
According to police, the handgun had already been in Pastran’s home, and Schnittke was shot during a struggle for the gun.
Pastran was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault, methamphetamine possession, recklessly endangering another person, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
He remained in the Deschutes County jail on Sunday.
