The United Way of Deschutes County is recruiting volunteers for the 2013 Take Credit Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), a free tax- preparation service that will help qualifying local moderate- to low-income residents claim their tax refund dollars.
Volunteers are encouraged to be available for one or two five-hour shifts each week. Responsibilities include greeting, screening and tax preparation.
Volunteers are needed from Feb. 1 through April 15 in Bend, Redmond and Prineville. Previous experience with tax preparation is preferred but not required.
Training can be accomplished independently or through classroom sessions that will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 17-21 at Central Oregon Community College.
