An announcement from Bend City Hall today states Fire Chief Larry Huhn will retire in April 2013.
Huhn counts 30 years of service and will stay on until his replacement is found. That process begins in January 2013, according to the city.
“It’s been an honor to be the leader of a such a fine organization with such remarkable people," said Huhn.
City Manager Eric King appointed Huhn Fire Chief in 2008.
He joined the department in 1983, was promoted to captain in 1992, battalion chief/training officer in 1997 and deputy chief/logistics officer in 2003.
“When I became a firefighter, I was looking for a career that would allow me to make a difference in the lives of others. My career in the fire service has been very rewarding," said Huhn. “I couldn’t have made a better choice."
Huhn says he’s looking forward to opening a new chapter in his life “and seeing where that may take him."
