A Bend man is Deschutes County Jail on drug possession and other charges, apprehended by Oregon State Police after fleeing an attempted traffic stop by car and by foot early this morning, according to OSP.

Police arrested Nicholas S. Klampe, 33, after he fled from a 2006 Volkswagen GTI wrecked at a tree on Brookswood Boulevard around 1:20 a.m., according to an OSP statement. A trooper attempted a traffic stop on the Volkswagen on U.S. Route 97 near Pinebrook Boulevard for an unspecified traffic violation; Klampe instead alledgedly sped away west on Pinebrook, then south on Brookswood before the GTI left the roadway and crashed, according to police. Police reported catching Klampe at the northwest corner of Brookswood and Larkwood Drive.

Klampe was charged with felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

Bend police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies assisted in Klampe’s arrest, according to OSP.
