Arthur Chaskalson, 81: First presiding judge of South Africa's Constitutional Court. Chaskalson helped write South Africa's new constitution in 1995, which allowed a majority-rule nation with minority rights protected. Earlier in his career, Chaskalson was part of the legal team that saved Nelson Mandela and other activists from the death penalty in the infamous Rivonia trial of 1963-64. Died Saturday in Johannesburg.

Jonathan Auerbach, 70: Co-founder of Auerbach Grayson & Co., a brokerage that specializes in international trading. The firm provides research and executes trades in international securities for U.S. mutual funds, hedge funds, pension funds and other institutional investors. Died Saturday of cancer in New York City.
