Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon on Bend’s east side and charged with driving a stolen car and possessing drugs, the Bend Police Department said.
Matthew Louis Collins, 48, of Bend, and Jeffery Clarke Williams, 51, were arrested in the parking lot of the Borden’s Corner complex on Northeast Dean Swift Road. Around 12:30 p.m., a Bend police detective reported the two men in the parking lot acting suspicious while getting in and out of a Toyota pickup several times. The detective checked the vehicle registration, and found it had been reported stolen Oct. 17 in Vancouver, Wash..
The two were arrested, and Williams was found in possession of an ounce of methamphetamine and a gram of heroin. Collins was also in possession of a gram of heroin, according to police.
Both men were taken to the Deschutes County jail.
Police reported that a search of Collins’ home turned up the stolen vehicle’s paperwork, tools to aid in stealing a car and a 9 mm handgun.
Police charged Williams with unauthorized use of a vehicle; parole violation; the possession, manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine and possession of heroin. Collins is facing charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of heroin.
