This may be the super-secret bargain show of the week. Steven Roth is an L.A.-based singer-songwriter who found some minor success with a band you’ve never heard of (Redstone Hall) before striking out on his own.
Now, he’s on a tour of the West, playing his classic brand of rock ’n’ roll for potential converts. He’s got a good pitch, too; Roth’s music is clearly composed and created with a sharp eye for quality, but it’s draped in a slightly gritty layer of organic soul that keeps things from getting too shiny. It kinda reminds me of The Band if they came up soaking in some Southern California sun rather than huddling in coats in the Great White North.
