State driver unhurt as fire destroys truck

Published: November 29. 2012 4:00AM PST

PORTLAND — A state truck responding to an accident on Interstate 205 near Oregon City caught fire and was destroyed Wednesday.

The State Police say the fire was believed to be an accident, and there will be an investigation into the cause.

The Department of Transportation vehicle, called an Incident Response truck, had gone to a crash site to help the police. When the driver returned to the truck, it was on fire.

The police said flares and gasoline cans, used for helping stranded motorists, contributed to the intensity of the fire. The driver wasn’t hurt.
