Our winter sports season is fast upon us.
Mt. Bachelor's alpine season is in full swing, and its groomed nordic trails and ski oval are open for classic and skate skiers who buy a day or season pass.
Along the Cascade Lakes Highway, snow is building at the higher-elevation sno-parks, giving us new places to play. At the lower-elevation parks, — particularly at Virginia Meissner — enthusiasm is building, too. Meissner Nordic, the nonprofit that runs the park, plans to open Saturday and groom some of the 40 kilometers of trails if there's enough snow. To check trail conditions, visit www.meissnernordic.org. And before you go to any of the area's sno-parks, buy a winter recreation pass at an area merchant.
