Bulletin staff report
Two men are in custody this morning following a short traffic chase from Tumalo that ended at a rock wall Sunday at Franklin and 10th in Bend.
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jeffrey Magnus, 29, address unknown, and Cyle A. Stewart, 26, of Bend, at the scene where a 2005 Jeep Cherokee driven by Magnus hit the wall, according to a sheriff’s press release. Magnus was jailed on five charges: attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, reckless endangering, possession of a controlled substance and a no-bail parole violation. Stewart is held on a controlled substance charge.
Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Dizney reports deputies responded at 8:43 p.m. Sunday to the Tumalo Store, where the Jeep and a gold Dodge pickup were seen in the parking lot. The store was the target of a recent burglary attempt, Dizney stated.
Deputies did not find the Dodge and the Jeep failed to stop when a deputy signaled the driver to pull over, according to Dizney. Deputies pursued at speeds of 60 mph, averaging 35-40 mph, until reaching Bend.
The Jeep failed to take the corner where it hit wall on the southeast corner, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
