PORTLAND — A convicted counterfeiter facing a prison sentence asked a Portland judge to also sentence him to the term awaiting his fiancee, saying he was to blame for her crimes.
Federal Judge Anna Brown told the 40-year-old man, Dung Ahn Nguyen, she couldn’t do that. She sentenced him Tuesday to nearly three years in prison. Then she sentenced his 28-year-old fiancee, Khonesavan Khim Savanphayphan, to about a year in prison.
The Oregonian reports the two were part of a ring that produced $70,000 in bogus bills that circulated in the Northwest.
