Two locals sign with D-I schools

Published: November 17. 2012 4:00AM PST

Seniors Mekayla Isaak of Bend High and Laney Hayes of Summit both signed National Letters of Intent with NCAA Division-I schools earlier this week.

Isaak, a 6-foot-2-inch post player, will play basketball for the University of Montana next season, and Hayes, a 5-11 outside hitter, committed to the Boise State University volleyball program.

Isaak helped the Lava Bears to the Class 5A girls basketball state tournament each of the past two years. Last season as a junior she averaged 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while leading Bend to a 20-7 record and a fifth-place finish at the 5A state tournament.

Hayes, a three-year starter, helped the Storm trophy at state each of the past three seasons, including 2011 when Summit won the 5A state championship.
