Christmas tree permits available

Published: November 17. 2012 4:00AM PST

Forest Service permits to harvest Christmas trees from Ochoco and Deschutes National Forest lands are now available for purchase.

Permits cost $5, and can be purchased at Forest Service offices and retail outlets through Central Oregon. Tree permits will be available by Nov. 23 at Central Oregon Bi-Marts, Butler Market South, Big R, Quick Stop, Redmond Cent Wise Sporting Goods, Bend Visitor & Convention Bureau, Sisters Rental and R&R Grocery among other locations.

Permit holders are allowed to harvest any tree species shorter than twelve feet, but cannot cut trees within Forest Service nurseries and plantations, or within 150 feet of highways or 300 feet of streams. A validated permit must be attached to each tree that is transported, and there’s a limit of five trees per household.
