David Durk, 77: New York City police detective who with Officer Frank Serpico shattered the infamous blue wall of silence to expose widespread corruption in the city’s Police Department in the 1960s and ’70s. Died Tuesday at his home in Putnam County, N.Y.
Jack Gilbert, 87: Prize-winning poet and novelist known for his clear and subtle verse in collections including “Views of Jeopardy" and “Refusing Heaven"; he wrote often about Pittsburgh and his childhood, food and sex, and personal pain. Died Tuesday in Berkeley, Calif.
