Bend’s Ashton Eaton was named the male winner of the 2012 Jesse Owens Award on Monday by USA Track & Field.
Eaton, whose stellar season featured a world record in the decathlon at the Olympic Trials and a gold medal at the London Olympics, joined sprinter Allyson Felix as 2012 winners of the award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding U.S. male and female track performers.
Felix, 26 and of Santa Clarita, Calif., won Olympic gold in the 200 meters and as a member of two U.S. women’s relay teams.
Eaton and Felix will be presented their awards on Dec. 1 at the Jesse Owens Hall of Fame Banquet in Daytona Beach, Fla.
