Veterans event set for Saturday

Stand Down, an event to link veterans and their families with area services, will be held at Bend’s Community Center on Saturday.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1036 N.E. Fifth St., is being organized by Central Oregon Veterans Outreach, a nonprofit that assists veterans.

It will feature opportunities to meet one-on-one with COVO and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs service providers. Breakfast, lunch and a take-home sack dinner will be available for free. Camping gear, bus passes and clothing will be distributed. Also, there will be free medical, dental, veterinary and haircut services.

Additional services will be available from NeighborImpact, the Red Cross, Bend’s Community Center and other organizations.

Free transportation to and from the event at set times is available from towns around Central Oregon including Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Madras, Prineville and Warm Springs.
