Loren (Peewee) Leslie Corwin, age 80, passed away on Oct. 26, 2012, at Kierras Place, Madras, OR.
Loren was born May 13, 1932, at the Priday Ranch on lower Trout Creek, OR. His family were early pioneers of Jefferson County. Lorens mothers family were cattle ranchers at Willowdale and Ashwood, and his fathers family were homesteaders south- east of Madras.
Loren graduated from Madras High School in 1950, and was an outstanding athlete in three sports during high school. He served in the Army from 1953 - 1955. He was stationed in Germany where he played basketball and football and received many awards for his participation representing his unit in competition.
He was a lifetime cattleman working on ranches near Antelope for Farrell Priday and Earl Smith as well as the Muddy Company. Loren was a cattle buyer for both Redmond Livestock Sales and Central Oregon Sales yard in Madras. He was cattle manager for Stafford Cattle Company of Culver and Prineville. Loren was a skilled horseman excelling as a rodeo pickup man throughout Oregon for many years.
Loren was the oldest of six living children, Lynn of Eagle Point, Kay Markgraf of Baker City, Dianne Traughber of Milwaukie, Gale of Prairie City and Larry of Portland; two children, Teri Burke and Dale Corwin; three grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. His mother and father preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested that donations be made to Madras Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on November 17, 2012, at the Inn at Cross Key Station, 66 Northwest Cedar Street, Madras, OR, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Loren has requested his ashes be scatted on Blizzard Ridge by his life time best friend, Loyd Vincent.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Carrie and Jorie of Kierra Place, where he lived. A thank you also to the VA nurse, Amy, and to Madras Hospice, that took care of him.
Arrangements are under the director of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home, in Madras.
