Tumalo Falls road, trails open again Saturday

Published: October 25. 2012 12:36PM PST

The Deschutes National Forest lifts its public closure of the road to Tumalo Falls starting Saturday morning, the U.S. Forest Service announced today..

Forest Service Road 4603, the Tumalo Falls Road, from the intersection of Forest Service Road 4601, Skyliners Road, will reopened at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, the Forest Service announced. The Tumalo Falls Trailhead will also be reopened. Opening the road will allow access to the Tumalo Falls Day Use Area and all trails in the area.

The Forest Service closed the road to accommodate replacement of a water line by Bend city contractors as part of its multimillion improvement of the city water system. However, a U.S. District Court judge in Eugene halted work by granting project opponents a preliminary injunction while the dispute is addressed in court.

Bend and its contractors will be removing equipment and materials from the area through Friday, according to the Forest Service. The service asks the public to remain out of the area until the road is officially open.
