Cyclists gear up for Cranksgiving

Published: October 25. 2012 4:00AM PST

Bend cyclists are invited to take part in the Bend Cranksgiving Bicycle Ride, a family ride Nov. 4 in support of Bethlehem Inn.

Registration is at 10 a.m., with the event scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at GoodLife Brewing Co., 70 S.W. Century Drive.

At registration, each cyclist will receive a map of neighborhood stores and a list of items Bethlehem Inn requires to stock its pantry and shelves. Cyclists will return to GoodLife by 12:30 p.m. with their items to donate. The fastest riders will receive an award at the closing ceremony.

Entry is free, but riders should bring $20 to cover the cost of items to be purchased and donated to the Inn, according to a news release.

Bethlehem Inn is the only emergency shelter in Central and Eastern Oregon, and provides shelter, food and support to those in crisis.

Cranksgiving events began in New York City in 1999 and spread to more than 20 other cities around the country.
