Get formal wear at Becca’s Closet

Published: October 13. 2012 4:00AM PST

Becca’s Closet — a nonprofit effort to loan teens formal wear for dances — is now open, even as the future of its home, Bend’s Community Center, is in flux.

Becca’s Closet loans dresses, tuxedos and accessories to teens who otherwise can’t afford it. It’s also selling a wide variety of dresses for $10 apiece.

Becca’s Closet volunteers recently went through the organization’s stock of dresses, culling out hundreds that had been donated but aren’t necessarily appropriate for wear by teenagers.

Those dresses are on sale, including bridal gowns and garments that might make fine Halloween costumes.

Becca’s Closet is also seeking additional volunteers to help staff the store. It’s open 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. It will close toward the end of October, but a reopening is planned for January, in time for the next round of dances.

Bend’s Community Center is at 1036 N.E. Fifth St. in Bend.
