Zion I leads an eclectic bill at the Domino Room

Published: October 12. 2012 4:00AM PST

The bill at the Domino Room Wednesday night is just straight-up crazy.

We're all used to tours with like-sounding acts packaged together. Or at least artists in the same general ballpark.

Not this one. Here's a roundup:

• Headlining is Zion I, the Bay Area-based hip-hop duo known for its combination of futuristic production and thoughtful rhymes.

• Minnesota is the “party crushing alter ego" of Santa Cruz, Calif., DJ Christian Bauhofer, whose pounding dubstep has carried him to tours with big names like Big Gigantic and Paper Diamond.

• Diego's Umbrella is no stranger to Bend. The San Francisco sextet's irresistible blend of punk, rock, polka and gypsy music got a bit of a pop-sheen upgrade on its new album “Proper Cowboy."

• And San Diego's Vokab Kompany melds pop-flavored hooks and vocals with rapping and electronic beats, turning out a sound “catchy and colorful enough to grab any ear open to left-of-center hip-hop," said yours truly in these pages last year.

So let's see: That's most of California and more than a handful of genres represented at one night in one place. All you have to do is buy one ticket, show up and be prepared to get down.

Zion I, with Minnesota, Diego's Umbrella, Vokab Kompany and Graft; 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, doors open 7:30 p.m.; $15 plus fees in advance (ticket outlets listed at the website below), $18 at the door; Domino Room, 51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; www .randompresents.com.
