• Bend golfers earn top-five finishes: A pair of Central Oregon golfers fared well in last week’s Pacific Northwest Pro-Amateur Championship at Salishan Spa and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach.

Chris van der Velde, managing partner at Tetherow Golf Club and a former touring pro in Europe, teamed up with Tetherow caddie Brandon Taylor, a former Oregon State University golfer, to finish in a three-way tie for third place with a 36-hole, 8-under-par 134.

That score was equaled by Bend amateur Charles Kingsbaker and Scott Leritz, the head professional at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash., after the duo combined for a final-day 64 in the best-ball tournament.

Deer Park, Wash., pro Luke Baker and amateur Jim Bob Coleman, of Billings, Mont., teamed up to win with an 11-under 131.
