Room-tax collections rise

Published: October 09. 2012 4:00AM PST

Lodging taxes collected in the city of Bend and Deschutes County in August rose year-over-year, making it the strongest August on record since 2008, the Central Oregon Visitors Association announced Monday.

Room taxes in Deschutes County increased nearly 15 percent in August over August 2011, bringing in $735,633. The city received $533,143,about 11 percent more year-over-year, according to data from COVA.

Alana Hughson, COVA’s president and CEO, attributes the increase in Deschutes County to improvement in both overall occupancy totals and a rise in lodging rates.
