Last modified: October 03. 2012 12:01PM PST

Deschutes County sheriff's deputies foiled an attempt Tuesday by two juveniles to escape from the J Bar J Youth Facility using a hostage ruse and an edged weapon, according to a news release.

Arriving around 5:25 a.m. in response to a 911 call of an escape attempt, deputies stopped a vehicle outside the facility at 62895 Hamby Road, Bend, according to the Sheriff's Office release. One juvenile, who had acted as a hostage, according to the Sheriff's Office, fled. The other exited the vehicle at gunpoint and surrendered without incident, according to sheriff's Sgt. Tim Leak.

Both were arrested and held at the Deschutes County jail on charges kidnapping, menacing, coercion, unlawful use of a weapon, conspiracy, harassment, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and interfering with a 911 call.

Sheriff's detectives in questioning the two learned they conspired to escape, one acting as hostage, by taking a J Bar J vehicle, according to Leak. Neither juvenile was identified by the Sheriff's Office. Deputies recovered several edged weapons at the scene, according to Leak.

No injuries were reported.
