Mandatory minumum does not apply to Bray, judge holds

Last modified: September 28. 2012 10:25AM PST

Deschutes County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Tiktin held this morning that Thomas Bray committed one extended criminal act, not a series of separate acts, when he raped a woman he met on Match.com last year.

That means Bray does not face a minimum 25-year sentence, a minimum called for under Measure 73. That measure, passed by voters in 2010, stipulates a minimum sentence for repeat offenders of felony sex crimes.

Bray’s sentencing is underway this morning in the Bend courthouse.
