Bidwell W. Bud Alexander, age 69, of Redmond, passed away September 13, 2012, at home. He was born February 3, 1943, in Portland, OR, to Ernest & Edith (Mulanax) Alexander. Bud moved with the family as a child from Sherwood, OR, to Central Oregon in the late 1940s. He grew up and attended school at Redmond.
He married Diana Johnson on April 2, 1966, in Corvallis, OR. With the family background in ranching, in 1967, he took a job running a feed lot in Hermiston, OR. The next year, his father had an accident and broke his leg necessitating Bud to return and run the family ranch. Over the next few years, he worked with Boston Ranch Co. in Prineville, Hershey Cattle Co., and then the Redmond Co-op. The family operated B&D Concrete and later began Central Oregon Monument Works.
Through the years, he was an avid and successful team roper with many wins and championships. He taught many cowboys and cowgirls how to rope and be successful. His door and arena were always open to those in need.
In the later years, he was chute boss at many NW rodeos. He was a mentor to rodeo judges and served as a director in several rodeo associations. Bud was a member of the Northwest Pro Rodeo Assn. and the Pro Rodeo Cowboy's Assn., to name just a couple.
When it came to family, many hunting trips and general outdoor excursions were enjoyed by all. The family includes his beloved wife of 46 years, Diana and their son, Bob, as well as a host of friends.
A remembrance of his life will be held in conjunction with the NW Pro Rodeo Year End Finals at the Crook County Fair Grounds. It will held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., in the Carey Foster Hall.
