The Crook County Health Department reported today that a woman who was bitten by the same cat that infected a man with the plague in June has also contracted the disease.
The woman, who is not identified, was treated before she became seriously ill, the health department said in a press release. Blood tests performed by the Centers for Disease Control and sent to the health department late last week confirmed the woman had been infected.
Paul Gaylord, who contracted the plague after being bitten by the same cat earlier this year, is recovering from the ordeal but is likely to lose his fingers and toes.
