Lynda Westcott, of Bend, took this photo with a Canon PowerShot around 6:30 a.m. July 21, the second day of Balloons over Bend. “I heard an exceptionally loud swooshing noise outside … and hurried out onto my upstairs deck to look for the source,” Westcott wrote. “(I) saw nothing unusual until I heard it again — directly overhead. This is what I saw hovering so close I could see laughing faces looking down at me. I … took several shots before they drifted up, up and away. What a beautiful way to start the day.”
