Impressive Inventions

Judges from the Rotary Club of Greater Bend share a laugh as they examine the “Solar Dog Scratcher,” an invention by kindergartner Reed Olson, at William E. Miller Elementary School in Bend on Wednesday. The judges viewed 287 entries during the event, which showcased inventions from students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

A working model

Reed Olson's “Solar Dog Scratcher” (attached photo) features a solar-powered electric motor that spins brushes, which scratch dogs. Some other inventions offer insight to students' creativity: “Word King,”

“The Shoe Sleuth 3000,” “Turbulence Tamer,” “The Unclogonator” and “Kitty Litter Eliminator.”
