TONIGHT: FIERCE CREATURES A few weeks ago, the Portland band Animal Eyes came to Bend and played a solid set of shaggy, wide-eyed world-pop music for some happy dancers at The Horned Hand. Tonight, they’re coming back, and this time they’re bringing some like-minded buds with ‘em. Fierce Creatures — the first band we’ve heard of from Fresno, Calif., to be frank — are a promising young group that makes tremendous use of glittering guitar lines, skittish rhythms and anthemic, shout-along choruses. Plus energy. Lots and lots of sweaty, isn’t-it-just-great-to-be-alive energy. That’s the stuff that powered the Creatures through a successful trip to the 2011 SXSW music festival and has snagged them spots on bills alongside indie big-timers like Tennis, The Lonely Forest, Avi Buffalo, Braids and Sleepy Sun. The band is currently in the studio recording its first full-length album, which they hope to release this spring. But you don’t have to wait for that to hear what they do. Visit www.fiercecreatures.bandcamp.com to sample “I Mostri Feroci,” a five-song EP that sounds like a jam session involving Talking Heads, Animal Collective and Bend faves Rubblebucket. Then see ’em tonight at The Horned Hand with Animal Eyes.
