‘Goat Rodeo’ film screens in Bend

Published: January 27. 2012 4:00AM PST

This is the music section, and you don’t often find encouragement to go see a movie in the music section. But this week is different.

That’s because on Tuesday, Regal Old Mill Stadium 16 & IMAX — the official, overly long name of the theater in the Old Mill — is screening a concert by the superstar virtuoso band behind the 2011 album “The Goat Rodeo Sessions.”

That band includes former Nickel Creek mandolinist Chris Thile, genre-defying bassist Edgar Meyer, bluegrass multi-instrumentalist Stuart Duncan and Yo-Yo Ma, perhaps the most famous cellist ever. Each man is among the best in the world at his chosen instrument.

“The Goat Rodeo Sessions” is an intriguing and excellent album, and the concert will no doubt be a spectacle of stringed virtuosity. The band’s not coming to Bend any time soon, so here’s your chance to see ’em.

“The Goat Rodeo Sessions Live”; 8 p.m. Tuesday; $15; Regal Old Mill Stadium 16 & IMAX, 680 S.W. Powerhouse Drive, Bend; www.fathom events.com or 541-382-6347.
