video: In this 2010 video, Deschutes River trail users share their views on the summertime dog leash rules that now are in effect.

Summer leash laws for dogs along the Deschutes River are now in effect, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

On hiking, biking and equestrian trails from Meadow Camp south to Benham East Day Use Area, dogs are required to be on a leash unless they are swimming or cooling off in the river, the release states. The leash requirement is in effect through Sept. 15.

Also, from July 15 to Sept. 15, dogs must be on a leash on sections of the Moraine Lake, Green Lakes, Todd Lake Basin and Broken Top trails, according to the Forest Service.

Dogs and pack animals are not allowed within the Bend Municipal Watershed at any time.
