Winter visitors to Central Oregon come for the recreation, not the shopping.
But there are times when the weather isn't great, or you just need a rest day. And for out-of-state visitors, the prospect of no sales tax is pretty nice, too.
Downtown
Downtown Bend has evolved into a lively evening dining destination, but there are plenty of shops as well offering clothing and accessories, jewelry, gifts and books, and more.
The first Friday evening of the month is an especially appealing time to visit downtown shops, as galleries and some other shops stay open late for the monthly art walk.
The Shops at the Old Mill
The Old Mill District -- literally the site of a former timber mill -- is the place to find well-known national retailers such as Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret, Chico's, Orvis, REI and more, as well as local shops, restaurants, and entertainment. The Old Mill also hosts festive winter events such as Winterfest, featuring the rail jam in the Old Mill, over the President's Day weekend. Who doesn't love outlet shopping for bargains? Bend's Prime Outlets mall features lots of options for outdoors enthusiasts, as befits the interests of residents and visitors, as well as the usual clothing and accessories. Among the retailers are Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Eddie Bauer, Pearl Izumi, Izod and more.
