You know how vampires are hot right now? And before that it was zombies?
Well, before zombies, I think it was pirates. Pirates were the cool thing.
People were into pirates, so they wore eyepatches and collected gold doubloons and said “aargh!” a lot.
And some dudes from the decidedly non-seafaring town of Reno, Nev., started a band, and they called it The Deadly Gallows. They’ll be at Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom tonight, playing songs that blend punk attitude, roots-rock instrumentation and lots of pirate-like, shoutalong choruses.
They’ll be joined by their closest local counterpart, Larry and His Flask, plus The Bo Deens, whom I saw open for U2 in 1987. (Oh wait, that was the BoDeans. Different band.)
The Deadly Gallows, with Larry and His Flask and The Bo Deens ; 8:30 tonight; $5; Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom, 24 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; 541-388-8331 or www.myspace .com/silvermoonbrewing.
