Old tradition, new tree

With a loud shout of “Merry Christmas,” a crowd in downtown Bend celebrates the annual lighting of the Christmas tree on Friday night. This year, however, a living tree was decorated for the celebration, which took place near Northwest Newport Avenue and Northwest Wall Street. Past holiday tree lighting celebrations were held at Mirror Pond Plaza with a tree cut down from the forest.
