Details: Aero Facilities LLC is continuing its buildout of hangars at Bend Municipal Airport, on land in the northeast section of the general aviation airport that will eventually house a total of 73 hangars.
The airport is owned by the city of Bend. Aero Facilities is the developer of the hangars, and is building them as they are sold to aircraft owners. Owners purchase the building and sublease the underlying land from Aero Facilities, which has a long-term lease with the city, said Kerry O'Neal, Aero Facilities' sales and marketing director.
The 6,400-square-foot hangar currently under construction is the third building to be erected and what the company considers its sixth hangar. One of the hangars previously constructed was subdivided into four separate hangars, O'Neal said.
O'Neal said the project will eventually house 73 hangars spread between roughly 45 buildings.
Work on the hangar now under construction began last month and is slated to finish in April 2010. It has radiant floor heat as well as temporary crew quarters. O'Neal said pilots and other air crew can sleep in the hangars overnight, but the city prohibits the hangars from being used as residences.
“These are nice, high-end hangars for people that appreciate them,” O'Neal said.
