Too close for comfort

Last modified: November 21. 2009 8:19AM PST

Walter McKnight and his daughter Libby, 10, look at the rotted roots of a broken spruce tree leaning precariously over their house on Northwest Harmon Boulevard on Friday. The tree blew over during the windstorm earlier in the day. McKnight said the house was built in 1923, and he believes the tree is about the same age. A weather spotter for the National Weather Service reported a gust of 52 mph in southwest Bend just before 10 a.m. Friday, but winds are expected to be lighter today. For a complete weather report, see the weather page.
