Lots of good options for fans of roots-rock, Americana, blues, and so on. For example:
• Tonight and Saturday, those grizzled vets of the Portland scene, the Freak Mountain Ramblers , are in town to celebrate the fifth birthday of McMenamins Old St. Francis School (700 N.W. Bond St., Bend). The Ramblers are well-known over the mountains for their eclectic sound, their good-time vibe and their quality picking. Both nights, they’ll play free shows at 8 p.m.
• An old friend of Bend’s, Too Slim & the Taildraggers , will return to town tonight to play The Annex (51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend) at 8 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.) Slim’s band has been playing its industrious blues-rock around the region for a quarter of a century. Tickets cost $13 plus service charges in advance and $15 at the door. Check www.randompresents.com for advance ticket outlets.
• If you’ve been craving the sweet string-band sounds of the Moon Mountain Ramblers , tonight is your last chance until New Year’s Eve. They’ll perform at 9 p.m. at Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom (24 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend). Cover is $7.
