A roundup of where the locals are playing

Published: November 06. 2009 4:00AM PST

A few shows of note this week:

• Folks who attended the Bend Roots Revival got to see local songstress Shireen Amini perform in a variety of ways — as a member of The Mostest, with Anastacia; she even led a drum circle for kids. Tonight, though, she’ll play her own global-soul music in a solo acoustic performance at Jackson’s Corner (845 N.W. Delaware Ave., Bend). Look for her from 7 to 9 p.m. There’s no cover.

• Local youngsters The Snag have made quite a bit of noise since winning a battle of the bands over the summer. They released an album of their quirky alt-rock and have ramped up their gigging. Go see ’em for yourself tonight at Real Life Christian Church (2880 N.E. 27th St., Bend), where Kylan Johnson will open. Things will get going around 9 p.m., and it’s free and open to all ages.

• Local hip-hop duo Cloaked Characters will perform Thursday night at Bendistillery Martini Bar (850 N.W. Brooks St., Bend), and that’s cool. Even cooler, though, is they’ll have their buds The Bayliens with them. Back in April, I called the group “a charming, futuristic blend of Bay Area hyphy, The Cool Kids’ old-school aesthetic, Kanye West’s DayGlo flash and the funky, melodic hip-pop of Lyrics Born,” and that’s pretty good, so I’m going to use it again. Hit up www.myspace .com/thebayliens to hear ’em. The party starts around 9 p.m., and there’s no cover.
