As you almost certainly know, these are hard economic times. And hard economic times means more people without homes and more people without food.
That's where Bend's Community Center and the Hoedown for Hunger come in.
BCC's Feed the Hungry program provides 800 to 1,000 meals to hungry people each week, and that costs money. So a whole bunch of Central Oregon's bands from the world of bluegrass, folk and Americana music are teaming up for the fourth annual Hoedown for Hunger fundraiser Saturday.
The show will run all day and will feature bands such as The Anvil Blasters, Back from the Dead, Bend'N Strings, the Bitterbrush Band, Quincy Street and more. There will also be a chili feed and potato bar, plus desserts and beverages. A silent auction is planned, and BCC will also accept donations of survival gear — tents, tarps, camp stoves, sleeping bags, warm clothes, boots and so on — during the event.
