Bands, bands, bands everywhere. Behold:
• Brent Amaker and the Rodeo have played songs from their first two albums all over the U.S. and Europe, and now they’re ready to show off material from their forthcoming record, due out next year. You can bet it’ll be more of what Amaker’s known for: off-kilter twang rock that’s equal parts dead serious and seriously deadpan. Think Johnny Cash meets Devo. They’ll be at Black Horse Saloon (20656 Brinson Blvd., Bend) tonight, and Problem Stick will open around 9 p.m. Cover is $5.
• That’s not enough Problem Stick for you? Fine. Bend’s premier shambles-rock band will open a show on Saturday night, too, this time for Portland’s The Pink Snowflakes at Players Bar & Grill (25 S.W. Century Drive, Bend). The Snowflakes inject their pop-rock with as much psychedelic flavor as humanly possible, and the result is charming, like The Flaming Lips without all the bells and whistles. They do have a bubble machine, though! Look for them at 9 p.m. Saturday. There’s no cover.
• Phone Calls from Home are a Christian/emo/pop/rock band from Boston that writes big, catchy songs, all hooks and neon hoodies. They’re not for everyone, but Google them to find out if they’re for you. They’ll stop at Rise Up International’s studio (1560 N.E. First St., Bend) for a show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Openers include Count Your Blessings, Capture the Flag, Slut and We Are Brontosaurus. Cover is $5.
