That little descriptor section of MySpace band profiles can be a wild ride.
Sometimes a metal band will list “Tropical” or “Two-step” among its genres. Occasionally you’ll see a folk singer described as “Crunk.” Artists are wacky!
For the Berkeley, Calif., duo Planet Loop, though, “Nu-Jazz/Afro-beat/Live Electronics” sounds about right. The band is jazzy, but in a nu way. There are certainly global rhythms happening here. And it all has a very synthesized-yet-organic feel.
