Jig, slip and reel with the Clumsy Lovers

Published: September 25. 2009 4:00AM PST

Confession time: I have long lumped the Clumsy Lovers in with bands like Flogging Molly and Young Dubliners under the assumption that the Lovers meld punk with traditional Celtic sounds, like those other bands.

Apparently I had never taken the time, though, to give the Lovers a listen. Turns out the Canadian quintet prefers to pair its Celtic influence with a much more easygoing mix of folk and pop. They have a new album out and a bunch of songs you can hear at www.clumsylovers.com.

I suggest you go give it a spin. I should have years ago. Seems it’s easier to get an impression of a band when you actually take a listen to what they do!

The Clumsy Lovers ; 9 p.m. Thursday; $10; Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom, 24 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; info@the grove411.net or www.myspace .com/thegrovebend.
