Warm Gadget’s grand opening is Saturday

Published: August 14. 2009 4:00AM PST

It’s been growing for a while.

In a nondescript warehouse, tucked into an industrial area on Bend’s east side, the sound and scope of something called Warm Gadget has been building in recent months.

First there was collaboration, between two heavies on the local heavy-music scene. Colten Williams (formerly of Vihara) and Tim Vester (formerly of The Kronkmen) got together in a garage to make music, and eventually brought in bassist Eric Metzger (most recently of metal band Bombs Kept Quiet) and drummer Jared Forqueran, who needs no introduction.

Then came www.myspace.com/warmgadget7, and songs that are an unholy amalgam of metal, noise, electronica and industrial music, yet hang on to some sense of melody and song structure. Most of all, it’s unsettling, is what it is. In a good way.

The music led to a deal with Decisive Sound Records out of Maryland, and an EP is slated for release soon. And finally, it’s time for Warm Gadget gigs.

First up is tonight at Players Bar & Grill, where DJ Moksha will warm things up with a set of tunes “he never gets to play in public,” says Metzger. The Gadgets will also play at Blackhorse Saloon on Aug. 22.

Warm Gadget, with DJ Moksha ; 9 p.m. Saturday; free; Players Bar & Grill, 25 S.W. Century Drive, Bend; 541-389-2558.
