Nothing is certain, they say, but death and taxes.
I propose we add to that list: An annual concert in Antelope by Christian country music singer Susie McEntire Luchsinger.
For more than 15 years, Luchsinger — an Oklahoman and the sister of country music star Reba McEntire — has been traveling to the tiny village northeast of Madras for a summer concert at the Antelope Community Church. The concert, which is a major outreach function for the church, draws upwards of 1,500 people to a town with fewer than 100 residents, according to organizers.
The attraction is Luchsinger, a sweet-as-pie singer who mixes more than a little gospel and Christian testimony into her set. Her faith prompted her to start doing “cowboy church” services for rodeo attendees, and that led to a show called “Cowboy Church,” which airs on RFD TV, a station focused on rural America.
Despite those big doings, though, Luchsinger keeps coming back to Antelope. “It’s probably the most awesome concert that I do every year — that I enjoy the most,” she told The Bulletin in 2007. “I look forward to it. I really do.”
