Did you know that there is a chimpanzee sanctuary in Tumalo?
It’s certainly possible that you do know that. But there are likely plenty of folks around here who aren’t aware of Chimps Inc.
On Saturday, a couple of fine local bands will play at Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom in Bend to raise both money and awareness for the group.
Since 1995, Chimps Inc. and its founder, Lesley Day, have dedicated their facility to providing homes for chimps that need one. The sanctuary’s chimps come from roadside zoos, the entertainment industry and the private sector, according to the group’s Web site at www .chimps-inc.org.
One of their chimps, Thiele, just celebrated her 23rd birthday on Tuesday. Happy birthday, Thiele!
This weekend, though, is about both chimps and music. Anastacia Beth Scott is a Sisters-based musician who writes rootsy indie-pop songs, and live, she’s backed by a tight band of some of Bend’s best players. Sample some her tunes at www.myspace.com/anastaciamusic3.
Electric Sudaki is the plugged-in iteration of Matt Suddock’s various Sudaki projects, which have been playing all over town in recent months. Expect solid rock, blues, jazz and funk from these guys.
All proceeds will go to Chimps Inc., and Silver Moon has agreed to donate 10 percent of bar sales to the cause, too.
Anastacia Beth Scott and Electric Sudaki; 8 p.m. Saturday; $5-10 suggested donation; Silver Moon Brewing & Taproom, 24 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; 541-388-8331.
